I live in Salt Lake City, Utah with my husband and twin eleven- year-old boys. After 18 years of teaching special education, I decided it was time for a career change. I’ve always loved fashion, and have been helping my friends shop informally for years, but it was only after one of my friends said, “You should be paid to do this!,” that I thought seriously about becoming a shopping consultant. Later, when I was leafing through the latest issue of InStyle magazine, it dawned on me – if I was a shopping consultant, reading fashion magazines would be considered research. I’d had an epiphany! Shopping at my favorite stores, perusing online retailers, and scouring fashion magazines could all be considered work. Ergo, CKG Styling was born.

I’m not exactly sure of the best way to describe what I do. I have been referred to as a stylist, but I’m really not a fan of that term.  Although it is accurate, it also implies that you have to be rich or famous in order to hire me. I like to think of myself as a personal stylist for the average Jane. In fact, I wanted to name my company Styling Jane, but then everybody would assume my name was Jane, and that would be confusing. The point is, I think that many women could benefit from a personal stylist. Who hasn’t stood in front of her closet at one time or another and lamented, “I have nothing to wear!” Many women have great outfits hiding in their closets, they just need a little help putting them together.

Also, you don’t need to look like a model to hire a stylist. Realistically, who is 5’ 10” and weighs 115 pounds? I’m certainly not, and most of my clients aren’t either. I like helping real women with real bodies find their unique style. So, my goal is to work with women of all sizes. Additionally, I work with all budgets, and pride myself on my ability to score bargains and discounts in a wide range of stores and boutiques.

So, in CKG Styling, I have found my dream job. I miss my students, but I love my clients, and they follow directions way better than my students ever did.
